Certificate 3 in fitness Gym Instructor.

Description

A Gym Instructor is a fitness professional who develops and implements an individualised approach to physical fitness, generally working with client’s in a gym / leisure center environment. A Gym Instructor may help an individual assess their level of physical fitness and help them work toward a personal fitness goal through proper exercise instruction and personal motivation. The scope of practice for Gym instructors is to enhance the components of fitness for the general, healthy population.

Many Gym Instructors work through local fitness centers, Private training studios and health clubs, assisting clients within the facility.

Pre-Requisite

  • Numeric and literature

First Aid

A minimum Level 2 First aid is a requirement for issuing of Certificate III in Fitness. Students are encouraged to complete this externally during their course, or where numbers permit, West Australian Fitness Academy will arrange a group course over a weekend. In which case, an additional First Aid fee to be paid at time of 1st Aid course.

Where a student already has a current First Aid certificate (level 2 minimum), they are to present that copy for RPL purposes.

Duration of Course

  • 5 Weeks

Learning Method

  • Face To Face.
  • Full time and part time courses run at the Academy.
  • Practical and theory sessions.

Assessment Methods

Competencies will be assessed by theoretical, Role play, and practical assessments

  • Meet client needs and expectations
  • Apply sport and recreation law
  • Contribute to personal skill development and learning
  • Organize personal work priorities and development
  • Undertake risk analysis of activities
  • Operate computing packages
  • Process client complaints
  • Provide advanced first aid response
  • Follow defined Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Provide orientation to clients prior to undertaking a fitness program
  • Undertake client induction and screening
  • Apply basic exercise science to exercise instruction
  • Provide advice to clients on the application of basic anatomy and physiology to fitness programs
  • Develop basic fitness programs
  • Provide leadership to groups
  • Use and maintain core fitness industry equipment
  • Instruct fitness activity skills to a client using fitness equipment
  • Provide nutrition advice to clients in accordance with recommended guidelines
  • Develop and apply an awareness of specific populations to exercise delivery
